Chapter Eleven
Aria
âSayah killed your father?â Dorianâs voice is low while his gaze is focused on me, like somehow he can see inside of me to where I harbor the monster.
I sit uncomfortably on the couch in the parlor while only two of the three guys remain close around me. Elias is nowhere in sight, but Dorian is perched on the armrest of the couch, one leg propped up on the cushioned seat. Cain is by the fireplace, still as a statue, yet thereâs fear, anger, and other emotions in his eyes.
I nod, brushing a few rogue strands of hair out of my face. Iâm squirming in my seat, my insides still jumpy after everything thatâs happened. Iâve never been the person to drink tea, but I might need a cup. Or a Benadrylâsomething to calm these bouncing nerves.
âSo not only did my mother summon Sayah to kill my father, but then she put her inside me before deciding I wasnât worth it and abandoned me at the hospital.â The words pour out of me, and I still donât know how to feel about it all. Itâs been on my mind a lot lately.
Maybe I ought to be crying, to feel torn, but in truth I feel empty when it comes to my past. Iâve shed so many tears about them, so now that I know the truth, I donât know how to react. Maybe Iâve made myself numb, or maybe I'm still in shock, I donât know.
Before the guys respond, I give them a complete run down to the whole conversation with my father and Lucifer.
âWell thenâ¦â Dorian says, running a hand through his hair. âAnd I thought my parents were jacked up.â
I huff out a breath. âIt explains why Iâm broken on the inside.â I half laugh, which only comes out awkward.
Cain strolls over and takes a seat next to me, his arm around my back. âThere is nothing broken about you, Aria. Not a single thing. We canât pick our parents, we canât pick our past, but we can become better from it, and thatâs just what youâve done.â
His words are sweet, but I donât know how true they are. I certainly donât feel like Iâm better.
Elias strolls in then, his shirt off, his pants hanging off his hips, hair a mess. Blood is smeared across his mouth. Heâs been hunting outside.
Silently, he moves across the room to his usual spot by the bookshelf and crosses his arms.
Cain strokes my arm and I lean against him. âI always knew my parents had abandoned me for some reason, but it never occurred to me it might be because my mother was psycho and had cursed me.â
Dorian is next to me suddenly, taking my hand in his. Elias kneels before my feet, his hands on my legs.
âYou will always have us. And Iâll gut Lucifer if itâs the last thing I do,â Elias tells me.
Having all three of them surrounding me, showing me the kind of affection I never expected, has my eyes pricking.
